Bubbles… Magical spheres, enticing me to capture moments of happiness within them. They are so unique! Each has its own shape, color, and path to follow… Every bubble is one-of-a-kind, just like every person in my life… 😊
Have you ever observed how they flutter in the air, transforming and shimmering in various colors? They truly are a universal enchantment, captivating us and transporting us into a world of imagination…
For me, they represent much more than just soap bubbles. They symbolize the vibrancy of life… Like a metaphor for life experiences and events that change and shape our lives. Just as bubbles transform, we as people also experience changes in our inner world… Changes in our thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and values. We evolve through different periods of our lives, facing challenges, learning from experiences, and growing as individuals. 😀
I live my dreams within my bubble 🥰. I store pleasant and tingling moments in it, and enjoy the company of people who unconditionally accept me as I am. With all my strengths and weaknesses…
I adore bubbles in all their shapes and colors… They also symbolize playfulness, joy, freedom, and magic. I view life as a bag of challenges, colorful opportunities, and unpredictable moments. I look forward to this, as it strengthens me and presents me with interesting tests. 💪
Why is photography of bubbles so interesting?
Photographing of bubbles is a popular activity among photographers and photography enthusiasts for several reasons:
-
- Aesthetic effect: Bubbles can create beautiful, colorful, and abstract images that are visually appealing. Photographing bubbles allows for the creation of unique and artistic shots that capture the viewer’s attention.
- Challenge: Capturing these fragile particles can be technically demanding, as it requires precise adjustments to aperture, shutter speed, and ISO to achieve the desired effect. This can be a challenge for photographers who want to improve their skills and knowledge in photography.
- Creativity: Photographing bubbles allows for photographic experimentation with different techniques and settings, such as using various soaps, mixing colors, adding backgrounds, etc. This allows for creative expression and the opportunity to create unique shots.
- Fun: It can also be a fun activity that brings joy and satisfaction in creating unique photographs. It is an excellent activity for spending time with friends and creating memories.
Camera settings:
- Exposure time: A shutter speed of 1/250 s may be appropriate when using a strong light source, such as a flash. Otherwise, you can choose a slower shutter speed, such as 1/60 s, but you need to be mindful of the movement of the bubbles to avoid them disappearing before the shutter closes.
- A larger aperture, such as f/11 or f/16, allows for greater depth of field, ensuring that both close and distant parts of the bubbles are in sharp focus. This is especially important when photographing objects that are close to the camera, where depth of field can be challenging.
- Regarding ISO, it is true that lower ISO values, such as 100, are generally better for preventing noise in the image. However, if your light source is not strong enough, you may choose a higher ISO value, such as 800, to achieve sufficient exposure. It’s important to find a balance between the ISO value and the image quality you want to achieve.
- Use backlighting: Backlighting can add a visual effect and emphasize the shape and colors of the bubbles. Try placing a light source, such as the sun or a flash, behind the bubbles to make the light and colors stand out in the photos.
- Experiment with different angles and compositions: Try different angles and compositions to create interesting visual effects for photography of bubbles. You can try low angles to capture bubbles from below or high angles to capture their movement and reflections in different environments.
Focusing
- Use fast autofocus: Bubbles move quickly, so you will need fast autofocus to capture a sharp image. Set your camera to continuous autofocus mode (AF-C or Servo AF on most cameras) so that it continuously tracks the bubbles and adjusts focus automatically as they move.
- Manual focusing: If autofocus is not working fast or accurately enough, you can try manual focusing. Manual focusing allows for greater precision in determining focus and can be effective for photography of bubbles.
- Experimenting with different settings is important when photographing bubbles to achieve the desired results. Adjusting settings based on available lighting conditions and trying out different combinations of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO values will help you achieve the best results in bubble photography.
The Science of Bubbles:
They may seem simple at first glance, but there is complex science behind them. They are composed of two layers of soap films—an inner and an outer layer. The inner layer is made up of soap molecules that face outward towards the air, while the outer layer is made up of water molecules that face inward towards the inner layer. This double layer of soap film traps a layer of water in between and forms a bubble.
When you blow bubbles through a wand or a straw, the air you inhale expands the inner layer of the film, creating a bubble. The surface tension of the soap film, which is a result of intermolecular forces, holds the bubble together and gives it its shape. The water in the inner layer of the film then evaporates, causing the bubble to eventually burst.
Because soap film is generally very thin, photographing bubbles can be technically challenging.
main ingredients for bubble solution:
- A glass of water
- 2 tablespoons of liquid soap
- 1 tablespoon of glycerin
- a pinch of sugar
Instructions: Prepare a glass of water. Add 2 tablespoons of liquid soap to the glass of water. You can use regular hand soap or try dishwashing soap. Add glycerin to the water and soap mixture. Adding glycerin or corn syrup will make the bubbles stronger. By adding a small amount of sugar, you can create crystalline patterns on the frozen bubble walls. Gently mix all the ingredients in the glass and let the bubble solution sit overnight to allow all the components to blend well. Your bubble solution is ready! Use it to create bubbles with a bubble wand, straw, or bubble ring. Don’t forget to have your camera ready. Let the fun begin…
How I photographed this lovely contrast:
It was a late winter day, and I was craving some playfulness. The landscape was still covered in snow, so I decided to combine fire and a bubble, which turned out to be a great idea! The perfect contrast of fragility and strength… First, I set up my camera on a sturdy surface and looked for the right angle for the bubble. Then I buried a fireproof container in the snow in the background, added some twigs, and lit a fire to create an energetic backdrop 🔥. With excitement, I blew a bubble onto the snowy surface and watched how long it would last due to the cold. With the focus on the bubble, I pressed the shutter button to capture the magical moment when the fragility of the bubble meets the power of the fire. It was a wonderful and fun experience, full of creativity and the joy of photography of bubbles 💥!
Well…
Just like bubbles, our lives sometimes experience unexpected moments when everything seems to be changing faster than we anticipated. We may also experience moments when we feel fragile and vulnerable, yet we strive to maintain our uniqueness and beauty… 😀
Yes, sometimes it just happens that a life bubble bursts. Perhaps we inflate it too much, or sharp objects puncture it. In those moments, I feel saddened, as something that was once magical is lost. However, despite this, the memory of its beauty, vibrancy, and joy that it once brought remains…
Bubbles can inspire us to maintain childlike curiosity and delight in the simple things in life. They can also remind us to sometimes step out of our comfort zone, embrace change, and accept new challenges that can enrich us and bring freshness into our lives. 🥳
So… give it a try 😊! Attempt to create your own bubble and protect it with all your might. Let it bloom, chirp, and delight you. Try to capture it through your camera lens, that will be especially fun… In the meantime, check out this blog post about my spring photo shoots. 📸
